“Besides,’ Kitty said. “All men of his sort are destined for loveless marriages of convenience, anyway. And if some woman is going to enjoy his fortune, why shouldn’t it be us?”
Finally took some needed time to think what should I say about this book. And to be honest im kinda shocked that this book is not getting the love it so much deserved. A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting is such a fun read that fans of Austen books and Bridgerton will absolutely enjoy.
The book starts with Katherine Talbot or Kitty being told her betrothed that there wont be wedding anymore after courting for two years. Desperate to keep a roof over her sisters head, Kitty went to London to look for a wealthy husband to help her pay his deceased father’s debts and to give future that is not poverty to her siblings.
If you have watched Bridgerton season 2 you will find that the said TV series and this book has a similar plot, only Kitty and her sister Cecily doesn’t have a wealthy sponsor to help them for the season. As a huge lover of anything related to regency period may it be books or movies, I have to say that I really enjoyed this one. I have been struggling these past few months to read and finish a book but with this one I devoured it in one sitting. There are some books that will just suck you in and somehow will leave you feeling that you belong inside that book, that you are an important bystander seeing it all in a front seat or front row if that’s what you want, and I felt that while reading this masterpiece.
There’s a lot of amazing book inside this book, the incredible writing style, unique characters and of course the love in both families that were shown in this book.
As Kitty set her eyes on Archie de Lacy, son of the Dowager Countess Lady Radcliffe who is as rich as Kings, she would encounter the overly protective and loving older brother of Archie; James the Earl of Radcliffe who will do anything to find out that she is a fortune hunter and that her So called feelings for Archie is real.
“Miss Talbot, I have never in my life encountered a woman so lacking in female delicacy as yourself. I cannot fathom how you have the gall to sit there threatening my brother’s virtue like some two-penny theatre villain.”
As Kitty grows closer and closer to the proposal she have been waiting, James with his watchful eyes is right there ready to expose what she really is. As these two keep meeting and even made a deal that will be beneficial for both of them, they become closer but in such a funny and unromantic way that will make you think cute. There’s lots of funny and heartwarming scenes in the book for both characters love their family fiercely. There’s also other characters you will meet and enjoy like Captain Hinsley; James’ friend and Kitty’s aunt who is secretly used to be a soiled entertainer/companion (if you get what i mean).
As the story progresses we will be thrown into endless balls and the actual working of the wealthy back in this era. The author also shows how much family is important to every characters in this book.
Overall its an amazing read and highly recommended if you’re looking for a quick and fun stroll in the 1800s.
