This is my first ever book by Holly Jackson and it literally took me by surprise! For those who haven't read her books I can already tell you that Holly Jackson has a way with words, she can write and use words and line repeatedly that will be dizzying and confuse you but will make you realize its a style to make your mind confused about the book and also to make the impact of the book to you stronger and much more thrilling.
Five Survive started real quickly, after you flip to page one you can already see that the characters are already on their way for Spring break riding an RV they borrowed. We have six characters in this book, Red, Arthur, Maddy, Reyna, Simon and Oliver. Each one is a very unique character that is hiding they own secrets. Even if the characters are just inside the RV, jackson has a way to make everything more ominous and thrilling already. It made me flip really fast through the pages.
I am not certain until now if what is Red's condition, it may be the shock from her mom's death or she has a condition that makes her forget stuffs really fast, among all the other characters I find Red and Arthur the most intriguing and boy I am not wrong.
As you flew through the pages and get to the part where they finally found out they are being held hostage in a secluded area where an active shooter is outside with a rifle willing to shoot them if they leave a drastic change will be seen in each characters as well as the atmosphere inside the RV. Hands down to Jackson for thinking about this lil mind game and applying it to her characters cause it really does push someone to the edge in this type of situation. People will also start showing their true colours as well as how far can someone go to hide their own secrets.
Its a very intriguing and satisfying read. I did get a little annoyed at how it feels like the words are just circling around and kept repeating cause im the type of reader who doesn't wanna get reminded about a detail I just read. But overall I enjoyed this one and so Im rating it 4 ⭐️
