I have nothing but praises for this book. Reading this one is like going into a dark misty forest not knowing what will you encounter and where will it end but you go in anyway cause you are curious and you wanna know everything. Its both thrilling and addicting.
The book starts right off to a good part where Tessa; a mortal thief and also a rebel caught by the vicious King Oberon, stealing his powerful gems. After this puzzling encounter where King Oberon let her live and go home even after being caught of stealing, the book throws us into what it really is being a mortal living under the protection of Faes in their side of the exchange of a mortal bride in every 75 years to bear King Oberon new heirs since the Woman Fae's cant concieve anymore after the whole Light Kingdom was shutted off from the other kingdoms in order to protect themselves from the mist that the Mist King brought.
I really enjoyed the story of this book, after months of ignoring YA and reading lots of Dark Fantasy Romance I was kinda nervous to jump right into this one. but I was proven wrong when I sat down and read this one and finish it in one day. I devoured pages after pages and the next thing I know I'm already finished with the book. The plot and the story flower so well and smoothly that I couldn't put the book down. It sucked me in and introduce me to another world of faes where everything is beautiful and growing and bright. And it also introduced me to a kingdom of faes were mist and darkness is the only thing you can see, where the darkness is endless and it's always night and you cannot grow anything in this land. Where creatures of the night who are bloodthirsty thrives. It's like the underworld above the ground.
I love the world building, I love the characters and I love every secrets each major characters have. It's really unpredictable and I really love that. These days you really cannot read a book and enjoy it because it feels like you have read it somewhere before and you know what will happen next. It's so predictable that you think it's the same book as the other book that you have read like months ago or years ago, it feels familiar. But that is not the case with Of Mist and Shadow.
I also love that the author gave us a remarkable female lead who loves fiercely and protects fiercely. And I love that we have morally grey characters who would paint themselves as a villain in order to save the world. But in all honesty even though I finish this book I'm really not sure who to trust should I trust Kalen? Or Oberon? It's brilliant how the author made us feel what Tessa is really feeling in this book she literally put us into Tessa's shoes. Not knowing who to believe. There's a tiny bit of romance but im so glad the author didn't focused so much on it cause I personally think that what's happening in this whole book is more important and more interesting than two characters getting it on. But i love loveee the enemies to lovers, one bed, slow burn and forced proximity trope in this book. I guiltily savored them all.
Hands down one of the greatest book I have ever read this year!
