“Of course it was easy to condemn hurting others when you’d never known the voracious anger that came with being hurt. Neven could so easily stand before us and denounce Hiro for killing Izanami because he wasn’t the one who had lost his mother or his home to her.”

TW: Physical Assault, Bullying, Murder, Mutilation, Animal Death and mentions racism.

A magnificent debut novel that is very rich with Japanese culture!

I love every single thing about this book. Im not sure if its because I love anime and Japanese Culture but if you are like me then you will most probably love this book too.

Kylie Lee Baker just has given us a new take on death. This book Is about a British-Japanese reaper who isn't really welcome as British Reaper because of being half Japanese reaper which they call a Shinigami. She was bullied and wasn't loved by anyone but her full British reaper brother, not even by her own father. After an unexpected event where she couldn't control her hidden Shinigami ability and ended up assaulting the higher ups daughter, she escaped London to find her Shinigami mother wishing to find a place who will finally accept her.

First of all, like I have said this was such a magnificent and amazing debut novel. Its very unique book that got me hooked from chapter one! Its very entertaining read with morally grey characters! The Japanese culture is so immersive. The gods and goddesses and also the yokai made me really excited! Im not really well versed with yokais so I ended up researching at 12 am. Okay now I hate researching when Im reading. I always feel like its an additional work that shouldn't be given to readers who are hip deep and really focused on the book, but I didnt felt like this while reading this book, I actually ended up enjoying and researching more yokai.

Second there was a tiny bit romance that I dont wanna give more details so I wont spoil you guys, but the secrets are very unexpected. I also love the unique characters and the siblings love is amazing and heart melting!

Overall I really loved and enjoyed this book! I cannot wait for the 2nd one! Highly reccommended!
